He keeps the line.

Calls, the desk, the handoff, and the car at the side door. He writes the log before the shift.

Open

Kobe on the stairs, looking back.

The shift

Morning. He reads the sheet before the line opens.
The coverall, held to the light.
An hour with the stone heads.
The earpiece, then he goes.
After the shift, by the curtain.
The car waits until the handoff is done.
The desk stays open.

On the floor

Morning. The sheet, then the line. The coverall, held to the light. An hour with the stone heads. The earpiece, then he goes. After the shift, by the curtain. The car waits until the handoff is done. Lemons for the floor. On the way out. Collar checked. Cold light. Before he dials. The desk stays open. He is already on the stairs. The call from the front desk. Open, before he writes.

The line is already open.
